We’re excited to share that Merrimack Youth Basketball is launching its own Youth Travel Basketball program this season for players in grades 4-8!
This opportunity is designed for players who desire a higher level of competition and are able to make more of a commitment to the game.
Recreational basketball focuses on skill development and fun in a local setting, while travel basketball offers a more competitive environment. Players will compete against teams from surrounding towns, participate in weekend tournaments, and benefit from higher-level coaching and more intensive practices.
Travel tryouts registration opens July 7th, and teams will be selected through free tryouts held on September 5th, 6th, 12th, and 13th, with each grade having up to two rounds of tryouts. Practices will begin September 20th and the season will run through March.
Registration links and more information will be shared soon.
If your child is passionate about basketball and looking for a bigger challenge, we encourage you to consider Merrimack Travel Basketball.

FAQs:
My child plays a fall sport. Can they still try out for travel basketball?
-Absolutely! We understand many athletes participate in fall sports like soccer, cheerleading, and football. We’ll do our best to schedule practices around those commitments. As fall sports wind down, we expect travel basketball to become the primary focus.
Can my child play both travel and recreational basketball?
-No. Players who make the Merrimack Travel team may not participate in the recreational program. There are likely to be scheduling conflicts between the two, and travel players will have already demonstrated a higher level of commitment and competition.
Is this the same as the tournament team from previous years?
-No. Travel basketball is a new program for Merrimack Youth Basketball and involves a formal tryout process. A separate tournament team will be formed later in the season with tryouts offered to those in the recreational program. We also expect to enroll our travel team in tournaments throughout the season.
What if my child can’t attend tryouts? Will there be a makeup session?
-All players interested in travel basketball should attend the scheduled tryout to be considered. If there is a conflict, please reach out to Dave Schaub at director@myabasketball.org.
Is this the same as the Merrimack Prospects travel program?
-No. The Merrimack Youth Travel Basketball program is run through the MYA (Merrimack Youth Association) while Merrimack Prospects is a separate organization.
Can my child try out for an older age group?
-Yes. If you believe your child can compete at a higher grade level, they are welcome to try out for that group.
What is the cost of the program?
-We anticipate the cost for the season will be around $500 per athlete. More information will come when registration opens.
I'm interested in coaching, how do I sign up?
-Thank you for being interested in helping the program! Volunteer registration will open July 1st.
